Sitta Varia, Red-bellied black-capped Nuthatch.”  Drawn from nature by Alexander Wilson and engraved by Alexander Lawson for Wilson’s American Ornithology, published in Philadelphia, 1808-1814.  Excellent condition. Plate measures 13 3/4 x 8 3/4 inches.  Wilson is considered to be the father of American ornithology and his work the first illustrated ornithology printed in America.
