Nauset Lighthouse, Eastham by Marguerite E. Falconer (1920- ) c.1960 -1970’s. Signed by the artist. Lovely framed watercolor on mat shows the red and white Nauset Light tower high on the eroding sand cliff. Marguerite E. Falconer is listed in Who’s Who in American Art and Who’s Who in American Women. Falconer first came to Chatham as a child and learned to paint from her mother. In the mid-1960s she taught art classes in the Quincy school system’s evening adult program where she met fellow instructor and artist Dan McElwain. Her paintings are a part of the permanent collection and archives of the National Museum of Women in the Arts, The American Museum of Art at Smithsonian Institute, Washington, D.C., the Cape Museum of Fine Arts, and many others. Image measures 6” x 10” in 11” x 15” frame. On artist’s mat with non-glare acrylic. Very light foxing to portion of mat. With original gallery label on back: “Oil & Water Color Painting McElwain Falconer Studio, Chatham, Mass.” (#1629) (VG+).
