Hand-colored lithograph of a Water Lily, Nymphae rubra , drawn and engraved by Samuel Holden for Sir Joseph Paxton’s Magazine of Botany and Register of Flowering Plants, published in London, 1837.  Excellent condition.  Image measures 5 3/4 x  8 1/2  inches.  Paxton was one of the most significant 19th century English botanists and his vibrantly colored lithographs are rarer than other 19th century botanicals.
