More information below.
A child’s handkerchief with a skating scene, measuring 12 3/4″ wide and 11 1/4″ high. It’s titled “The Family Skate” and printed around the edges is the famous poem “Comin’ Thro’ the Rye” by Robert Burns. It was made at the Mystic Print Works, which was established in Medford, Massachusetts by John Cochrane, Jr. in 1863. The Turkey red used in the handkerchief was a specialty of Cochrane’s, who also owned Cochrane’s Turkey Red Works in Medford. It’s in very good condition, with minor staining. This is an important addition to any textile or skating collection.
