Hand-colored copper engraving of Lilies, Plate 733, drawn by Sydenham Edwards and engraved by S. Sansom for William Curtis’ The Botanical Magazine, published in London, 1804. Very good condition. Double plate size with original folds, 8 x 9 1/4 inches. Beginning in 1787, Curtis’ Botanical Magazine was the first botanical and horticultural periodical and was not only beautifully illustrated but was a practical guide for growing exotic garden plants. Many engravings were drawn by talented botanical artist Sydenham Edwards.
